The Moral of the Story Is...

So about nine months ago I was on my way to church and I realized I had forgotten that I left a bunch of stuff for Primary at home, so we turned around and went back to get it. This made us late, well, later than normal, so to make up for lost time I kick it up a notch and was going 39 in a 30. Big mistake. I got a ticket and ended up owing $240...does that sound steep?

Fast forward one month. The ticket is due, the upstairs apartments of the four-plex we're living in burns down, all of our unfiled documents are ruined from water damage, and I completely forget about the ticket.

Fast forward to two weeks ago. I get a letter in the mail saying that because I failed to show for a court appearance my license is suspended. What! Oh, right, the ticket.

Fast forward to today. I called and my once $240 dollar ticket is now $472.19 and I need to pay a reinstatement fee.

And the moral of the story is...

Church is bad.

Do you think the Primary will pay for the ticket out of their budget since it was their fault anyway? Shannalee?

Anyways recently here he had some ticket at a weigh station for over length on the semi and work was suppose to pay for it... they never mailed it out we didn't know until Korey got a warrent for his arrest... quickly we made sure it was taken care of! Tell them you're not going to pay the fee. Your house burned down and that wasn't your fault. They can take the fee off. Don't take no for an answer...if someone tells you no...ask for a manager. Cry if necessary. :)

MaryBeth,
They should have canceled the ticket all together after hearing that your house burned down.

Umm your house burned down...USE IT!! Who cares that you had plenty of time to pay it before then.

Also, if you are going to go after the church, use the YM/YW budget, it's always at least double what Primary has and ActDay girls are essentially preYW.

Oh my gosh! You got a $240. ticket for going just 8 miles over the speed limit? That is steep. I am very sorry that it's now doubled. I wonder if your bishop can help pay utilities so you can pay the ticket. If I had any money at all I'd give it to you. Having 5 kids and one on the way pretty much drains you of all currency.

I forgot about a $40 ticket in Idaho right before I graduated from Ricks and they sent me a notice telling me I had a warrant out for me. I can't remember the reinstatement fees. I guess the moral of my story is higher education made me a criminal. By the way thanks for all the great posts you have. I live for days when you or your sisters have posted.

Ouch, MaryBeth!! I agree with the others, though, fight it. Your house burned down for pete's sake! There's got to be some good come out of that!

Ok so it's been a couple of days since your last post. Did they throw you in the slammer or what?

I don't know about the speeding ticket nonsense, but I've been catching up on your blog and do you get (and I mean, GET) what an amazing person you are? Seriously MaryBeth, you are such an example of strength to me.
I love you and your blog!

P.S. Go after the scouts, that's where all the money is. :)

p.s. I love Lily.

Marybeth,
My kids are in bed and I should be doing a million other things. But, anticipating my birthday tomorrow, I've been a little sad since I'm in an new place away from friends and family and my husband is away for work. Basically, I've been feeling sorry for myself and while thinking that there is nothing on the entire internet for me to look at, I started blog hopping and found yours.

Coming across your blog and reading your sweet posts about your son's bone marrow transplant, your anniversary, and sweet Lily, have been an answer to my prayer last night to be able to see the many blessings in my life. I'm so sorry that you have had to go through all that you have, but I don't believe that you will ever know how many people that your choice to share your private experiences will/have touched. I'll keep checking in and hope that your next ten years will be completely healthy and happy.
