Just Say No

Just say NO! has always been my policy when it comes to animals. I don't like them really. I figure if I'm going to invest that much time and energy into a living thing I better reap some of the benefits like being taken care of when I'm old. Dogs just can't do that.

If I hadn't pushed Aren out myself I'd swear he wasn't mine. He loves animals. Loves them. He's always asking for a dog, a cat, something, ANYTHING that he can take care of. I told him he could have Tania but he didn't want her. Last year I finally caved and said, "If you can save up enough money to pay for all the supplies, I'll buy you a hamster," knowing full well this kid can't save money to save his life.

Well yesterday it happened. He walked up to me with money in his pocket telling me he had enough and he wanted his hamster today. Dammit. So we went and now Chester is living with us. I refuse to say he's part of our family because my hell, he's a freakin' hamster. He's cute and all, but I have no connection. Like most things in life, the Simpsons pretty much sum up my feelings...

You're a better mom than me. I could never intentionally allow a rodent live in my home.

Yuck. I am waiting for the death of our cat. I just don't need another thing to take care of or to whine at me. (Personally, I would have made him save for something that was less of a rodent. I don't find them cute...at all.)

Katie's pressuring me into a cat. We're never here to take care of anything. We'll come back from a trip and it will be dead. That will show her.

Shayne forced us to take in a homeless cat that pretty much forced her way into our house. Denise is right though...a cat isn't a rodent. Of course they do live longer...Bless your heart for caving in.
